FOCUS, improving outcomes
What we know from talking with our patients is that they want to go where they know that their team is the best for treating their specific type of cancer. At the same time, physicians who are determined to achieve the best outcomes have begun to gravitate toward more and more specialized treatment programs. As the largest provider of cancer care in our area, Providence Cancer Center has a unique opportunity to support programs led by internationally recognized experts in treating both common and rare cancers.
Already we have been successful in organizing research-oriented treatment programs around tumor types, such as thoracic oncology, gynecologic oncology and GI oncology. The next step is to build on our strengths in achieving the best outcomes for breast, colon, liver and lung surgeries.
This links right into our vision of focusing on tumor type and of having specialized surgeons on board. I hope soon to have exciting news to report from our national search for a director of surgical oncology to work with local physicians who are already here and to recruit the best nationally in tumor-type surgeries.
Bringing together the three arms in cancer treatment — chemotherapy, radiation and surgery — improves care, improves outcomes and drives clinical care forward. And that’s what we are about at Providence Cancer Center.
I hope you enjoy this latest issue of eOncology Report and the summer months.
